What is kennel cough

Kennel cough is a highly contagious disease that strikes dogs. There are several diseases that can strike your dog but kennel cough is one that is not only contagious but it can be life threatening as well. The first symptom of kennel cough is difficulty in breathing, a dry whooping cough and somewhat like bronchitis and wheezing. The dog may try and have a hacking cough for the first few days and this will in due course of time become worse. During this time your dog will be lifeless and not energetic and disinclined to eat. You will notice that its food bowl remains as it is.
Kennel cough can easily spread in a matter of seconds to other dogs that come in contact with your pooch. You will find that any kind of exercise or running will start a bout of coughing that does not seem to stop.
The thing about kennel cough is that it is not an ordinary cough and therefore your dog needs medical attention right away. It will affect the dog’s lungs and bronchi and will not go away unless it is put on medication. Kennel cough is caused by a virus that is extremely virulent and easily transferred through the air. If your dog has a weak immune system or is nutritionally deficient then it can easily be a prey to this disease. At the first signs of kennel cough you need to take your pet to the vet right away.
